TCAP testing is fast approaching! Yet, there are still very many skills that we must cover so that we are prepared for the challenges of the test.

We have been working on grammar skills by completing a packet of previously learned skills. We will continue to practice these skills and review them orally in class. 8.3.spi.3; 8.3.spi. 5 ; 8.3.spi.7

Our reading focus for this week will be as follows:

  • Analogies 8.1.spi.16
  • Figures of Speech  8.1.spi.15

The eighth grade Language Arts department has also purchased the TCAP Coach/ Blueprint for Learning books. We will spend some time practicing the skills in these books, in that they are directly correlated to the TCAP achievement test for Language Arts, teaching the students the skills that are measured on the test.

Happy Valentine’s Day!!!

Parents, remember that next Monday, February 18, 2008, is a holiday for the students.

Have a wonderful week!

This week we are collecting money and/or items for our Angel Tree child. All donations are due by Wednesday. A truck from the salvation Army will pick up our gifts at that time. Parents and students, thank you so very much for the donations that have already been received.

It is almost unbelievable that we are almost halfway through this school year. We still have lots of ground to cover. Therefore, attendance and focus are extremely important. Have an awesome week!

  • Parents, please remember to encourage your children to keep their agenda books updated. This is also an excellent way to communicate with the teachers.
  • Daily study time is essential. A ten-minute review/study time each day is quite beneficial in helping to remember skills taught.
  • Please check the posted grades regularly . Teachers can be reached by email or contacted through the GMS office if there are questions/concerns.
  • Our team’s Fall Festival was awesome! We hope to have another incentive activity that will be just as fun and exciting.
  • Thanks for all your support, Parents!

All classes are working on grammar skills for the entire week. We are identifying the following types of verbs:

1. Linking Verbs

2. Helping Verbs

Please watch for homework assignments each night because we will complete several practice exercises to ensure mastery of all skills.  These are review skills, so the students should do very well on all assignments.

Students will also write a five-seven paragraph essay on a given topic. A prompt will be assigned, and students will be required to write for 35 minutes.

We will be out of the classroom on Friday as we take our Thinklink tests in the writing lab.
